A overview shot of our ideas and conceps being implemented in the park.

Inspired from the Singapore Jewel dome, we want to bring the concept right into the door of Whampoa's residents. The dome not only sheltered the residents away from the rain or shine, it also provide a conducive environment for all ages to socialise and enjoy their activites ( Picnic/Study/Taichi).

As part of our project's goals, we want to encourage the Whampoa's residents to lead a healthy lifestyle. Each pieces of exercise equipement were carefully explored and chosen so that it could meet the residents's exercise needs. The exericise corner is sheltered so that the residents are able to utilise the equipement regardless of rain or shine.

History Walk is a incorporation of the dragon head and as a place to learn about the history of Whampoa. A walk down the significant changes that been made to Whampoa helps to establish the identity of being a Whampoa residents. Thus, forging the community spirits.

 

As part of project's goals to bridge the generation gap between the old and the young, we realised that many elderlies loved to talk about their pasts. As a result, we want their stories and memories to be heard and remembered.  With our "Memory Cove", users can interact with the signage and walk down the memories lanes. This helps to bridge the generation gap as both parties have something in common to talk about.

A two-story dragon-themed playground was built to provide extra fun and excitement for the neighborhood's children. This playground was carefully planned and designed to not only meet safety standards, but also to provide many benefits to children by encouraging physical activity for long-term health outcomes. As a result, it is located right next to the pre-school, making it easily accessible to the children, as the nearest playground is a short walk away.

Based on our covert observations, we realised that many residents love to cycle around the Whampoa's estate. As a result, a solar-powered bike rack is designed to meet the needs and demands of the cyclists.

Inspired from the outdoor stage, it was to redefine a shelter's design along with incorporating more flora. This shelter not only bring more vibrancy to the neighbourhood but also acts as a place for parents and residents to rest as it is beside two key places which is the playground and the exercise corner.

 

The photograph above depicts the first day of our community workshop at Whampoa Community Club. This workshop lasted two days as we implement our participatory design approach to engage the residents and learn about their needs, wants and frustrations within the selected physical space ( 85 Whampoa Dr, Singapore 320085). All of this contributes to ensuring that we meet the needs of the residents and that our designs are usable.
