Sound Design for Nine Tales (Industry Partner: Nine Tales)
This image shows one of our team member Felicity using the Sennheiser AMBEO microphone to do an immersive recording of the ambience at Admiralty Park playground area. The AMBEO works by using the microphones placed in the headset to record a 360-degree ambience.
This image shows two other teammates Cheryl and Ming Chye using Pro Tools to record foley sound effects. In this image, our team used a stereo microphone, the Rode NT4 as well as a Neumann KM184 to get different sounds to blend for the final product.
In this Image, we have Felicity who doubled up as the Audio engineer for one of the voice-over recording sessions. For this session, we had the company head of NineTales come down to observe as well as to give feedback to the voice-over artist and the team.
In this Image, we have Samuel who doubled up as the location sound head as well as the technician for the voice-over recording. Here, he is adjusting the pop filter to the height of the talent to prevent any plosives from being recorded.
In this image, we have Insyirah who was the main talent for all our voice-overs.
In this image, it shows Ming Chye, the team’s foley artist, doing a foley recording of a keyboard typing. The KM184 microphone is placed closer to the laptop keyboard to capture a crispier sound. The rode NT4 microphone seen above would be capturing it at a distance so that the team is able to blend the two to get the desired sound they want.- In this sound clip, the team wanted to capture the sounds they hear every day. So, they used a portable field recorder to capture the elevator sound.

So, they used a portable field recorder to capture the sound of a rooster crowing at Labrador Park in the late afternoon.

PROJECT INFO:
Our team worked with Nine Tales by creating a sound bank for their storytelling app. Our project aim was to give Nine Tales something that is different from the usual sound bank containing generic sounds. Instead, our work contains sound effects, ambiences and voiceovers which can be used throughout various stories of different genres for young children. The highlight of our project was to collate unique soundscapes in Singapore, which our team captured across various locations in Singapore, for the Nine Tales sound bank.
